MACMask is a simple to use application that allows you to change the hardware (MAC) address of any network card, physically attached to your computer. The program is quite simple, but its interface looks very nice. This enables the user to learn how to use the application without any hassle.
If you’re behind a network that requires you to register devices by their MAC address, you can change your local MAC to register the device, then restore your original. I’ve personally used this to register a wireless router in a matter of seconds. Also, many ISPs (Internet Service Providers) use the MAC address of your network card to register and track your computer on their network. With this kind of ISP, if you need to change your network card, you have two options. You can either change the MAC of your new card to match the old one, or you can contact the ISP. |

Maybe you've heard about 'tcpdump' from one of your friends who use Linux. Well, if you haven't, you should know that 'tcpdump' is a network packet sniffer which enables a user to monitor and log network traffic. This application was originally developed for UNIX systems, and now it's available on Windows.
Before we go any further, you should know that this program is only a command line utility, so it doesn't have a user interface. The output data can be logged into a file, for later viewing and analysis. By default, 'tcpdump' prints out the headers of all packets that are received or sent through a network interface. However, you can use a boolean expression for matching only the network packets that you are interested in. |

Net Spy Pro is both a network monitoring tool and a remote control software. This software package is composed of two applications, a client and a server. The server should be run on any computer that is to be monitored or controlled on the network. On the other side, the client should be run on the computer used by the network administrator.
The server application is in fact a special web server. You can access it through the network from any other computer. When connecting to the server for the first time using an Internet browser, I guess you should know that the default password is 'retinax' (without the quotes). I found this out by reading the help file, which by the way I think is very good. Starting and stopping the server is done by using the program's main window. Even when you close this window, the server still runs in the background.
There are many things you can do with Net Spy Pro. You can remotely monitor virtually every aspect of the computers running the server application. The list of processes and applications, browser favorites, temp histories, open ports, recent documents, and so on, are all accessible through the pages that are served by the server application. |
